Rigel Ventures LLC builds consumer applications and the data infrastructure that supports them. We are small, self-funded, and focused on a narrow set of products we can maintain properly over the long term.
What we do
Software built end to end, from the data up.
Most of the consumer software we care about is only as good as the data behind it. We build both halves: the application people actually use, and the far less visible work that keeps the information inside it accurate.
Consumer applications
Native iOS and web applications aimed at everyday decisions — designed to be fast, private by default, and genuinely useful without demanding much from the person using them.
Data infrastructure
We build and maintain the datasets our products depend on in-house, with our own checks in place to catch problems before they ever reach the people using them.
Product design
Interface and product work carried out in-house, from first concept through to the shipped release. We design what we build and we maintain what we ship.

Rigel Ventures LLC currently develops and operates one product. We would rather do one thing thoroughly than several things partially.
Order Smart
In developmentOrder Smart helps people eat well at the restaurant chains they already visit. It takes what someone is trying to achieve nutritionally and turns it into a short list of things they can actually order — a decision that usually means squinting at a nutrition table, reduced to a few seconds.
It runs on a nutrition dataset we compile and maintain from published sources. A native iOS application is in active development.

The company takes its name from Rigel, the blue supergiant in the constellation Orion — one of the most reliable fixed points in the night sky, and a reasonable thing to aim for in software.
